Our History

Headquartered in Ames, Iowa, Hawkeye Energy Holdings has three principal affiliates: Hawkeye Renewables, Hawkeye Growth and Hawkeye Gold. Hawkeye Renewables was established in 2003 with the construction of the 50 million gallon Iowa Falls plant. An expansion completed in March of 2006 doubled the capacity of the Iowa Falls plant to a 100 million gallon per year facility. Construction of a 115 million gallon per year plant was completed in May of 2006, and is in operation near Fairbank, Iowa. Hawkeye Growth LLC has a 115 million gallon per year plant in operation near Menlo, Iowa as well as a 115 million gallon per year plant in operation near Shell Rock, IA. Hawkeye Gold markets distillers grains for all of the Hawkeye plants as well as for independent third party plants as well.

Our Company was founded on three core beliefs:

  • Traditional forms of energy are a limited resource. As world wide demand continues to grow for energy. Traditional supplies will shrink and prices will continue to rise.
  • Improvements in renewable energy technology have made certain forms of renewable energy cost competitive with traditional sources.
  • There is an opportunity for forward thinking companies to bring those cost competitive forms of renewable energy to market within the United States.

Based on our core beliefs Hawkeye decided that an opportunity existed within the renewable fuels market. Our goal was to bring renewable fuels to the marketplace while following two simple rules.

  • The energy must be clean energy - which means when compared to traditional sources of energy there is little or no harmful impact on the environment.
  • The energy must be affordable energy - which means people want to buy it not just because it is good for the environment but because financially it makes sense.
